In today’s competitive Internet market one way to stay ahead is investing in photography and video equipment. If you can offer photography or video service as part of you package for developing web sites you will have a strong advantage over rivals. One good way to invest in a camera is to get one with video built in. When I purchased my camera I wanted something that I could shoot short video with HD quality and chose the Nikon D7000. I cut my teeth on the Nikon D80 and decided to use the same lens once my D80 bit the dust. I have been very impressed with the photo quality of the D7000 and can’t wait to shoot video this week.

One issue I have heard with the D7000 is motor noise picked up by the built in microphone with auto focus on. One solution is to take auto focus off and use manual focus. This will insure no motor noise is recorded!

Enough about the killer D7000 lets talk about what you need to get started…
Most people don’t have a couple of thousand to throw out on one camera so about $500-$1000 will get you in the door some good gear. For a few hundred or so you can get a decent HD video camera and about the same will get you a nice point and shoot.

For web publishing you can use a pretty cheap camera with OK results.. I even know people that sell prints with terrible quality and people love it. Let’s be real though a serious camera will attract serious customers and happy smiles. Sometimes it is the size of the tool that sells the service, even though it is what is under the hood that counts.
