I used the built mic on the D7000 and it was roughly about 5 feet from my subject.  The audio quality was thin and sounded like he was talking in a box across the ocean on the phone..  Some post production editing can help filter this a bit but my biggest issue was some popping noise in the first 12 seconds of audio.  It sounds like a sharp digital spike and it happens about 5 times…

It looks like I am going to have to purchase a directional condenser to achieve better audio quality. I am concerned about the spikes in the audio and hope it is just the built in mic. I did see a setting for auto distortion control and figure this might have a limiter in it and will research more..

I am gonna offer my client a re-shoot with a professional mic soon.. I will be back to share what I discover with a better mic.

Be prepared  with good light.. I shot with my handy 18-135 nikon with good room light and used a 500 watt  halogen work light and should have used two for good measure..

I did enjoy the level feature though.. great for getting perfect balance in framing.

Ease of use I give the Nikon D7000  a—9  ” a monkey could use it!”

Instruction for Video….. 5  ” just not enough data “

I really thought Nikon could have had better instruction for the video mode.. I tried to search on-line for more info but really haven’t found all the answers I have been looking for.

One issue that seems to be common  is built mic motor noise.. Be sure to use manual focus to avoid this from ruining audio… I was wise enough to know this before shooting..
